In a near-future controlled by the Monty Corporation, citizens are stripped of their names and reduced to serial numbers. When a rare home visit reveals that laborer Zakariya Arshad's mother is dying and his younger brother carries immunity to the virus tearing through their world, Zak abandons his camp and runs.
What follows is a pursuit through swamps, forests, and the homes of the few willing to help them — with a broken bounty hunter closing in.
